Ms. Davidson is from, and currently resides in, South Philadelphia. She has been teaching for 6 years. She started her career teaching in North Carolina for two and a half years before returning to Philadelphia to continue her teaching career. Currently she teaches 6th grade English/Language Arts and Belmont Charter Middle School.

Where did you go to school? What was your major/degree?
Kutztown University, 7-12 Secondary Education/ English
How did you know that education was the right field for you?
I always loved English and Reading and wanted to share my excitement with those around me. In college, a professor pulled me aside and stated that he thought I would be great using my skills as a teacher. So, I changed my major, started my classes and never looked back!
What drew you to Belmont’s mission?
I was drawn to the Student First aspect, and that they also believe in not only teaching and building students’ academics but also their social and emotional skills. I also was very impressed with the OST program and how much attention the school placed on its students.
What makes your school a special place/what do you like best about teaching here?
Our administration and curriculum coaches are absolutely amazing. I feel as though I am always continuing to gain knowledge of how to become a better teacher in my content area. Additionally, the students are loving, love to learn, and the bonds that I share with them make me happy to come to work every day.
What’s your favorite school memory at Belmont Charter Network?
During a staff PD, we had a milk drinking competition. Not only was it entertaining, but we also showed students the video the next day. The laughter and joy they felt seeing their teachers be “kids” really showed me how our true personalities can affect the kids.
How do you create joy in the classroom?
I celebrate student success, allow fun brain breaks, and allow the kids to have personalities.
What is the greatest challenge you face as a teacher and how do you overcome it?
Differentiating for students who are 2-3 grades below a 6th grade reading level so that they feel empowered and not overwhelmed with the assignments. I overcome it by working 1:1 with students, having student helpers assist struggling students, and also researching and continuing my education on differentiation.
What is one piece of advice you would give to Belmont students?
Never give up on yourself. Put forth the effort even when things are difficult, and you will see your true potential.
What’s your favorite thing to do in Philadelphia?
Go out to new restaurants with my friends or family.
